Through a collaborative effort with the Millburn Municipal Alliance Committee (MMAC), the Millburn Police Department, and the Partnership for a Drug Free NJ, and the artistic talent of a Millburn High School Senior, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT) is proud to announce the official launch of a Permanent Prescription Drug Drop Box for the residents of Millburn.

Raising awareness about prescription and over-the-counter medication abuse and building a safe and healthy community are the key goals of this joint project. ADAPT and MMAC are now urging families to take inventory of the prescription and over-the-counter medication in their household. Residents can properly dispose of any old or unused prescription and over-the-counter medication by dropping them off at the drop box located in the lobby of the Millburn Police Department.

Research shows that 70% of individuals who abuse prescription and/or over-the-counter medication get access to them from the medicine cabinet or household of a friend or family member. Residents, often time’s teenagers and young adults, also need to overcome the perception of low risk that is associated with the use of prescription and over-the-counter medication for recreational, non-medicinal purposes.

Residents now have access to this drop box 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and should feel free to drop off their old or unused prescription and over-the-counter medication with no questions asked. Remember, one of the best ways to keep a SAFE home, and to protect the environment in the process, is by disposing of any old, unused, or unwanted medications. This is particularly important to protect children, teens, and senior citizens who may mistakenly take or abuse of prescription or over-the-counter medication.
