S.I.S.T.A Program

SISTA is a social-skills training intervention for both HIV positive and high-risk negative, specifically sexually active, African-American and Latina women (between ages 18 – 29) aimed at reducing sexual risk behaviors. This intervention is designed to increase condom usage. It consists of five peer-led group sessions. These 2-hour sessions are gender specific and culturally relevant including behavioral skill practices, decision making, group discussions, lectures, role-plays, prevention video viewing and take home exercises. The intervention is based on Social Learning theory as well as the theory of Gender and Power. Every participant receives an incentive upon completion of the program as well as greater confidence to communicate with their partners. See Attachment SISTA

In partnership the MHS PTO, MMAC will host a special speaker, one who spoke to students last year and created an amazing buzz, no pun intended.

In support of April’s Alcohol Awareness month, Steve Benvenesti will join us and share his Spring Break story of hope and determination. It is a program you won’t want to miss… he will provide tools and strategies to employ with our own kids to keep them safe and protected. For 25 years, Steven Benvenisti, Esq., personal injury attorney and motivational speaker, has been featured on television, radio and appeared before hundreds of thousands to share his story of the most significant case of his entire career. The Irvington Family Development Center will be holding a Family Movie Night with a special screening of Annie on March 26, 2015 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at 50 Union Avenue Suite 401 Irvington, NJ 07111

Mother Daughter Retreat

This is a great opportunity for Moms (significant caregivers/legal guardians) and their daughters to be able to make the connection that will allow them to see each other as important and worthy of setting aside dedicated time to be with!

The fee covers all meals and boarding for the overnight retreat for 2 people (mother-daughter).

CALLING ALL HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS:

  • The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is looking for high school juniors to participate in our annual summer internship program. This exciting five-week program is designed to expose high school students to careers in law, law enforcement and government. The summer internship program will be held from July 6, 2015 through August 7, 2015 for students completing their junior year by June 2015. Interns must be Essex County residents. During this unique internship program, interns will be exposed to a comprehensive curriculum that includes: learning about the role and function of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office; participating in New Jersey State Trooper Youth Week, a one week residential program; participating in a mock trial; touring various law enforcement agencies; learning about local government; and interfacing with the corporate and the community-based partners on the ECPO Community Justice Advisory Board. Throughout the summer internship program, interns will also participate in cultural events and attend workshops that focus on career readiness and making positive choices.
